About the Timber Design AwardsThe NZ Wood Resene Timber Design Awards is a highly acclaimed, bi-annual awards event (run every 18 months) showcasing the innovative, structural and aesthetic use of timber by New Zealand architects and engineers. The entrants constantly provide projects of an exceptionally high standards, making the Gala Awards Dinner an evening stimulating and valuable event for everyone with an appreciation for timber and design.
This is New Zealand’s only Timber Design Award event that has been running for 45 years which allows engineers, architects, architectural designers and builders to showcase innovation using timber. Winning an NZ Wood Resene Timber Design Award provides a competitive edge that is compelling a marketplace that values expertise. The Awards cater to such expertise, and they help draw a line in the sand between mediocrity and brilliance. In these competitive economic times, what better way to do this than put your work forward to be judged alongside your peers. Wood as a construction material offers a level of versatility and texture that can be inherently challenging to today’s designers. Understanding the beneficial properties of wood (including its resilience in earthquakes, its acoustics, structural strength and sustainability) can be the domain of a new breed of professionals. Deciding to use native alternative species to create dramatic and warmly special and often carved impacts are another unique consideration that only comes with wood. This year the categories have been revised by the 2020 Judging Panel and have widened the scope of categories for entries. New categories include; “Public Design Award” and Sustainable Development Award”. Revised categories are: “Exterior Structure Design Award” and “Wood & Fibre & Technology Innovation Award”. |
