Survey from MPI: Rapid Assessment of Log Market Arrangements and Forward Market Conditions
Dear WPMA Members,
Please find a link below to a survey prepared by MPI to make a rapid assessment of the log market supply conditions in NZ both now and into the near future.
Wood Processors Survey Cover Letter
MPI are looking for a response from you by 9 am on Friday 15th May so I hope that you can take time to respond.
You will recall that the WPMA Board met with Ministers Jones, Parker and Twyford back in early December to agree the findings of the official inquiry into the NZ log market. Ministers announced the conclusion that the log market was highly distorted and instructed officials to put in place a raft of remedial measures.
This has been slower to government action than we anticipated and mainly due to COVID-19. As alert levels lessen WPMA is picking up the pace on the regulation needed to remediate the market and you will have heard Hon Jones referring to the need to regulate in his recent press statements,
As we push into this regulatory process MPI is keen to get a picture of the log market that is emerging post COVID-19 and has asked for your direct feedback. I am getting worrying reports from members around the country and this is your chance to send these directly to MPI where the results will be anonymised.
Please try to respond to the survey if you are able. I am hoping that this will help us move forward by focussing minds on the issues identified.
