An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an independently verified and registered document that communicates transparent and comparable data and other relevant environmental information about the life-cycle environmental impact of a product.

Multiple datasets are included in an EPD: resource consumption of energy, water and renewable resources, and emissions to air, water and soil. This data is aggregated using multiple environmental impacts including contributions to climate change (carbon footprint), air, water and soil pollution and resource depletion.

The EPD was the result of contributions of data and money (to pay the consulting firm) by the following firms:

Abodo Wood Ltd.( www.abodo.co.nz)

NorthPine Ltd. (www.northpine.co.nz)

OTC Timber Co Ltd. (www.otctimber.co.nz)

Red Stag Timber (www.redstagtimber.co.nz)

Rosvall Sawmill Ltd (www.rosvall.co.nz)

Taranakipine (www.taranakipine.co.nz)

Techlam (www.techlam.nz)

Tenon Clearwood LP (www.tenonmanufacturing.co.nz)

Timberlab Solutions Ltd (www.timberlab.co.nz)

Xlam NZ Ltd (www.xlam.co.nz)

For the participating companies it means that projects can gain Greenstar points for using their products, and more importantly these days, architects and developers can more accurately and truthfully calculate the environmental impacts of buildings they design and build. With the push toward the low emission economy now contemplated by Government, it will be more important than ever to have this knowledge so better decisions can be made.

WPMA congratulates the participating companies, pathfinders for the whole industry.
